Tinctures

Tinctures are an age-old method of consuming oils from various herbs, even cannabis. As a matter of fact, they were the commonest types of cannabis medication in the U.S before prohibition started in 1937. While not as common today, CBD tinctures are still quite popular among many patients, especially those that require taking regular doses of cannabis throughout their day.

Hemp oil tinctures have one main ingredient – CBD. This is a natural chemical compound found in hemp oil. Hemp seed oil, which is extracted from pressed hemp seeds, is the other common ingredient in CBD tinctures. It can be either cold-pressed or unrefined. The former has a dark/light green color and a nutty flavor. The darker-colored oil has a grassier flavor and is used as the base oil blended to lend it a runnier consistency.

Some companies use coconut or grapeseed oil instead of hemp oil in order to eliminate the nutty flavor. Regardless of what the CBD base oil is, it often has a pretty earthy flavor. It’s also why some of these products have organic and natural flavoring, making them much easier to consume for some people.

1. Don’t give a psychoactive high

CBD tinctures don’t cause the patient to experience a “high” or a euphoric effect. Because CBD oil is made from the cannabis or hemp plant, one of the common misconceptions is that it has psychoactive properties. However, the fact is that they contain only trace amounts (0.3 % or less) of THC which is a psychoactive cannabinoid. Tinctures are completely non-psychoactive and will not have a negative impact on perception, sensory awareness, reaction time, consciousness, or behavior.

In fact, CBD tinctures have anti-psychoactive properties, making them capable of countering the “high” or euphoric effects of THC.

2. Interact with your body’s natural endocannabinoid system

Derived from cannabis plants such as hemp, CBD tinctures interact with your natural endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for maintaining the human body’s homeostasis for a number of functions such as immune response, appetite, sleep, mood, pain, appetite, and anxiety etc. CBD tinctures are effective in supporting the efforts of this natural system.

3. Safe for human consumption

CBD tinctures are safe for consumption and well-tolerated by the human body. Daily doses of up to 300 mg can be used safely for up to six months and higher doses for a duration of 4 months.

4. CBD counters the negative effects of THC

Clinical research trials data suggest that CBD tinctures increase relaxation, thus reducing the paranoia that is associated with larger doses of THC. The effect of CBD oils can help suppresses appetite which is an effective way of counterbalancing the “munchies” that THC brings on. A tincture is also very effective in countering the ill-effects of smoking.

CBD tinctures get the thumbs up from patients, parents, and pets too. With such a wide variety of uses and benefits and absolutely no psychoactive effects, these products are a win-win for people that need to take CBD on a regular basis.
